Rehabilitation Modalities

On this page you will see photos of rehabilitation. There are different procedures we use to help get things the way they used to be. You will see electro stimulation( e-stim), ultrasound, use of the wobble board, ladder walking and also the use of a physioball. You will also learn the purpose for each of these procedures.

Above: Neuromuscular electrostimulation (e-stim)

NMES is a commonly used form of electrical stimulation that causes muscle contraction. It is used after surgery or injury to prevent loss of muscle mass, to increase muscle strength and joint range of motion, and to decrease pain and swelling.

Above: Land Exercise Therapy and Mobility Training (Ladder Walking & physioball)

Land exercises are used to improve coordination, strengthen collateral muscles, and stimulate neural aptitude (re-educate nerves and muscles) after nerve or neuromuscular injury such as inter-vertebral disc disease.

Fitness and mobility training is essential for the well being of most dogs whether or not they have suffered an injury, had a surgery, or are facing a future surgery. If your pet has a medical condition such as arthritis, or is injured in work, or in the show-ring, fitness training can provide your dog with a renewed sense of comfort, can restore lost muscle tone, build confidence, and in some cases prolong life. Fitness and mobility training will decrease the chance for injuries that can occur with normal activity, as well as in the canine athlete. All dogs benefit from the proper fitness training!

To the Left:  Wobble Board

The wobble board helps build coordination, balance, strength, and neurologic re-education. As you can see, it takes 2 people to assist with this exercise. One person needs to hold the dog to keep him/her steady and the other will "wobble" the board.

Below:  Therapeutic Ultra Sound

Therapeutic ultra sound has a deep heating effect which decreases scar tissue, improves circulation, decreases pain and muscle spasm and promotes healing of tendons, muscles, and ligaments.

Pulsed Signal Therapy (PST)

PST is delivered directly to the joint area in dogs and cats who suffer from osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, and degenerative joint or rheumatoid disease to repair damaged cells. This is not available anywhere else in this region.

PST can eliminate the need for medications and surgery and is completely non-invasive.
