24 Hours Post Surgery

No Description

This, ladies and gentleman, is Oscar. He's quite the handsome boy, isn't he? Oscar is one of our TTA patients. These pictures are 24 hours post surgery. He was up and walking around the very next morning. Oscar had the TTA done on both of his knees on December 5, 2005. They were both casted so he would not put weight on just one leg.

Oscar will go through follow-up radiographs and rehabilitation over the next few months. The follow-up radiographs are to make sure everything is still in place and to just make sure everything is okay.

This is a "rear" view of what the casted legs look like. You can also see where he needs to be shaved down before surgery.

If you're wondering what those bag looking things are on his feet, they are just old IV bags used to put on their feet when the ground is muddy or wet so the cast doesn't get wet and smelly.

The healing process is not just about letting nature take it's course and heal on it's own...

It also takes some TLC! Which, as you can tell by the picture, Oscar got more than enough of that.

After the surgery he received different types of rehab to help strengthen his legs and get him walking again. He did land exercises, worked out on the physio ball and wobble board. He also received lasery therapy and e-stim. Our technicians also applied hot and cold packs to the quad area.

Keep in mind, each pet's rehab treatment plan will not be the same. Dr. Freedman will determine what is needed and for how long, for each pet. Every pet is different and may react in a different way to each surgery and exercise plan.
